About Our Files

Our Mom’s Home Journal files come in two basic formats:
PDF (Portable Document Format)
XLSX & XLS (ExceL Spreadsheet) … our “do-it-yourself” files

All of our pages are available in the PDF format which you can simply download/save to your computer, then print. However, due to popular request, we are also creating copies of these files that have editable features. These editable files are available in either PDF or XLS formats and require use of the programs documented below. I have found that the XLS format offers a LOT more flexibility and are not as cumbersome to create as the editable PDF files. This summer (2011), I will be replacing most of our current PDF editable files with the XLS format.

PDF FILES (download/print)
These files require the latest free version of Adobe Reader Software.
Mac Users – You may use your PDF Viewer.

PDF-E FILES (w/editable features)
Some of our PDF files have editable features. Many of these features cannot be saved in the current PDF format (as will be noted on the download pages). However, I am working to update all of these files so that they will have the option to “save”.

MAC Users – Follow the special instructions on this page for our editable PDF files: click here.

XLSX & XLS FILES (w/do-it-yourself features [DIY])
These files require a spreadsheet program like:
Microsoft Excel -OR- free software Open Office Calc (Windows & Mac-friendly).

How to Choose XLSX or XLS:
Use the XLSX files if you are using Excel 2007 or OpenOffice Calc.
Use the XLS files if you are using Excel 1997-2003.

Help for DIY spreadsheets:

The DIY files are created with basic fonts and standard colors so that they will function with various spreadsheet programs. You may edit these fonts, headings, and most background colors within the spreadsheet program you use. You can also add your own data to most fields. The “do-it-yourself” changes you make may also be saved.

[TIP]: For best results, right-click download links (control click for MAC) and choose “save target as/save link as” to download to your computer.
